Our Caravan in Rowes Bay Caravan Park,
Townsville
Townsville - An overnight shower has cooled things down slightly so quite pleasant this morning.

Free Public Pool beside the Ross River
Yesterday we explored The Lakes which was being built last time we were here early this year.  It is a sporting complex including an extensive infinity pool on the banks of the Ross River which runs through Townsville.  A beautiful complex - free entry - much needed in this climate.

The Esplanade, Townsville with Magnetic Is in the distance

We have been to Magnetic Island many times before but not this time.  It is a beautiful laid-back island - a bit alternative.  The many small bays are surrounded by big boulders - reminicent of Cornwall.  There is a regular ferry service to the island as many people live there but work in Townsville.  You can hire a mini-moke to get around if you visit for a day.

How is your head for heights?  Could you live in this house?  Terry certainly could not!

Interesting Engineering

In the hot months ie October to May, swimming in the ocean in the tropics is a problem due to the irukandji and box jelly fish.  To overcome this problem, councils install stinger nets so that beach-goers can swim in safety. These float on the surface but have nets hanging below them.  In the pic below the Nippers (young life-savers) are training on Sunday morning.

Townsville Espanade
Today we are moving north again just over 200km to Kurramine Beach which is about 20km north of Mission Beach - one of my favourite places.  Dunk Island is just of the coast.
